Why donate?
First off, this weather site is privately owned and operated and is not affiliated with either the Vermilion County Governing Body, nor the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), which many people believe it is. I merely have agreed to display their weather data in our format and attempt to provide relevant information to the citizens and businesses in our area.This site started out as a hobby. Something to do in my spare time. Vermilionweather.com now gets in the range of 250,000 - 300,000 views a month. The response has been phenomenal. In fact, several upgrades were and are necessary to keep up with the demand. I've had to purchase over $2000 worth of new equipment the last couple of years to replace old/outdated equipment. I also had to greatly improve the server situation to handle the increase in traffic. I am always looking to add new features and data when practical.
I provide all of this for free, because at the end of the day, it's nice to think that there are people out there who find the information supplied here to be useful. The Vermilion County/Illiana area deserves a website source dedicated to concentrating on it's weather information. It is always reassuring to receive emails from people to thank me for my effort, and it is mainly this which keeps me going. However, the fact is that providing all of the information here costs a significant amount of my own money, so any donations (no matter how small) are very much appreciated. In the next 60 days I have many of the expenses associated with running this site coming due. I must weigh the costs of continuing this site versus my own personal financial responsibilities. I pay for the domain names, servers, constant internet feeds, weather station, computers, software and data, etc..., all of the expenses, out of my disability income check. This is a one person organization. I do not do it for the money, but the money helps me do it.
